Getting my new PA license during my birthday week felt like it symbolized the decision to finally lay some roots in Philly. Neighbors from the community fridge always warmly greet me whenever we bump into each other. Staff at the coffee shop and Indonesian restaurant I frequent also began to recognize me. As a disabled Asian American woman, I’ve had a complicated relationship with my eyes. I did not meet Eurocentric standards of beauty and my left eye is a gray cloud of cataracts. The cataracts in my left eye were the biggest indication of my disability.
